We’re very excited to be able to offer 2024 dates for our popular ‘GARDENER FOR A DAY’ experiences again!

Please note: we have limited spaces available and will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis.

Join our gardening team for a UNIQUE day out!

It’s time to take the opportunity to discover more about the astounding array of exotic plants and shrubs around the world. Dig in with our horticultural experts and learn how to grow and care for our colourful species.

Also, if you keep your eyes and ears open while you’re working in our gardens, you’re certain to catch a sneaky glimpse of the amazing and, in many cases, incredibly rare animals which make up our award-winning zoo.

Explore our whopping 128 acres of gardens, learn about some of the world’s most RARE plants and discover interesting facts you didn’t know about our much-loved common flowers and trees.

We’re very proud of our gardens and delighted to offer a range of themed areas that tie in with our animal habitats. For example, in our Islands zone, thousands of shrubs and trees have been planted to recreate the feeling of South East Asia. And in our massive Monsoon Forest, Durian fruit, coconut palms and bananas provide a lush habitat for tropical birds, crocodiles and orangutans.

 YOUR DAY WITH US…

  • You’ll be working alongside our qualified, highly skilled and enthusiastic gardeners.
  • Work behind-the-scenes in our glasshouses, where our team of botanists look after five plant collections of national importance, including carnivorous pitcher plants, cactus and South American orchids!
  • Spend half a day outside with the team (including in one of our animal houses).
  • Time in the nursery caring for our specialist collection of tender plants.

This fantastic day is the perfect treat for yourself, or an ideal gift for your green-fingered family members or friends. Give them a truly unforgettable experience!

They’re only held on Wednesdays and between the months of April and October. The day begins at 8am and finishes at 4pm with tea breaks and lunch included. You’ll also get a signed commemorative certificate and a small souvenir to take away with you.

Over 18s only.

We’re a global conservation charity and all funds raised through this scheme supports our vital conservation work in the zoo, across the UK and in over 30 countries around the world.

Over 18s only.
