Free school visits (November 2019 – February 2020)

We’re pleased to offer free entry to the zoo for 42,000 school pupils visiting between 1 November 2019 and 29 February 2020, in a bid to broaden the impact of our work as a conservation and education charity inspiring the next generation of conservationists. We’re welcoming bookings from schools who were unable to take advantage of the initiative before (2017/18 and 2018/19). If your school meets the Terms and Conditions then we’d love to hear from you. The number of free admission places and admissions per day is limited; you may therefore be asked to visit on another day and/or book using our discounted educational rates. Please make sure you read our T+C’s before booking.

Free admission Nov 2019 – Feb 2020 Terms and Conditions:

This free admission offer is for visits between 1 November 2019 and 29 February 2020, weekdays during Cheshire West and Chester term time only. It is only eligible to those schools who have not taken advantage of the free admission offer before (i.e. those who visited with the free schools tickets scheme from November 2017 to February 2019). The offer is open to nursery, primary and secondary schools from Early Years and Foundation through to Year 13 pupils. Independent schools are not eligible to book in this first round of tickets. Accompanying adults will be admitted free of charge at our standard ratios for each year group. Adults visiting over and above this ratio will be charged at the additional adult rate.

The number of free admission places and admissions per day is limited. If the limit is reached you may be asked to visit on another day and/or book using our discounted educational rates. Early booking is advised. Our discounted educational rates are offered to educational establishments on weekdays during Cheshire West and Chester term time. Home educators are eligible to book as a group through a Home Educators’ Network.

Places are offered on a first come first served basis. We do not hold a waiting list.

Junior Members and Blue Peter badge holders

We’re really happy for Junior Members to come along on school visits. They’ll be admitted to the zoo free of charge but they’ll need to bring their membership cards with them. Junior Members aren’t included when we calculate how many free adults you’re entitled to.

Please note that we don’t accept Blue Peter badges.

Workshops

Our workshops cost £28 per session and we can accommodate up to a maximum of 20 pupils in each workshop. In a couple of our Out and About sessions, we take a maximum of 15 students. You can have a chat with our Education team when you’re booking to find out more about our workshops.  We have the potential to run four workshops at one time and 16 over the course of the day.

Please note that we reserve the right to charge for booked workshops if these are cancelled and we’re unable to re-fill the sessions.

To book an educational trip please see the booking your visit page.

Payment

When you phone to make your educational booking, our staff will ask how you want to pay.  There are various options:

Pre-pay by cheque or card
If you choose this option, please note that pre-paid tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Any additions to your party on the day will also need to be paid for in cash.

Pay on the day by cash, cheque or card
With this option, you pay the admission fee for the number in your party which attends the zoo on the day, regardless of the number booked in.

Request to be invoiced after your visit
An invoice will be generated by our Accounts Department and will be emailed or posted to you a couple of days following your visit. With this option, you will be invoiced for the admission fee of the number which attends the zoo on the day, regardless of the number booked in.
