CLIMATE CHANGE AND SUSTAINABILITY
We are at a pivotal point in the fight against the climate and biodiversity crisis. We want to empower the next generation of conservationists and are providing a collection of learning resources to support educators to discuss the key concepts and messages around climate change and sustainability issues.
In November 2021 the UK Government hosted the UN Climate Change Conference – COP26. The conference of the parties was a historic moment, defining the course of political action to address the climate and biodiversity crisis facing our planet. This is a something that is already of great concern for many young people so schools and the education sector have a unique opportunity to play an important role in the legacy of COP26.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 5 RAINFORESTS
Using our exclusive resources and step by step guides, you’ll travel around the world with your students to encounter different rainforests and species. Your pupils will gain an understanding of what it’s like to work in the rainforest as well as a few useful life skills. Our playful approach using games and code breaking makes learning about the rainforests really fun for everyone.
The mission – to become Conservation Codebreakers to uncover hidden clues and unlock a secret area on our website.
Designed for KS2, many of the resources are adaptable to other age groups. It can be run across 5 days to create ‘Around the world in 5 rainforests (in 5 days)’ or you might choose to explore one rainforest each week over 5 weeks.
LOVE IT FOR LONGER: A 5 ROUND SUSTAINABILITY ADVENTURE
We’ve created these activities to help your pupils learn about sustainability and incorporating areas of the national curriculum such as English, Maths, Science, and Art. This package, designed for KS2 and KS3, gives plenty of ideas to make this project your own.
Discover what we mean by, “Love it for Longer.” We are so proud of the steps we have already taken to reach our sustainability goals here at Chester Zoo. Once you have discovered what we do, we hope you’ll be inspired to begin your own sustainability journey.
GO WILD: A 5 WEEK LEARNING JOURNEY
(to look after wildlife and ourselves)
A programme of work designed for upper KS2 and KS3, bringing together virtual video content with our learning resources to create an educational journey across 5 weeks or to create a 5 day ‘One Wild Week’.
With a focus on UK native species and wellbeing, we have developed a package that is quick and easy for educators to pick up and run; with activities that fit in to many areas of the curriculum (maths, literacy, history, geography, science) but also offer the wellbeing benefits of getting outdoors, getting active and making a difference.
