Read the biography of Stephen Johnson
Stephen Johnson is a full time professional retoucher and trainer having 40 years’ experience in Photography and 28 years’ experience in Electronic Imaging.
Before becoming freelance he worked at Tony Stone Images where he helped setup and run their early creative electronic imaging department. He also worked for Getty images as they expanded the company as a consultant providing due diligence work at Photodisc and other companies.
Stephen became freelance in 2003 and setup Copyrightimage Ltd to provide training and services to both photographers and photo libraries.
Stephen’s clients include the BBC where he colour grades and retouches images from a variety of sources for printing in their best-selling major project books such as “Planet Earth II”, “The Hunt”, “Frozen Planet” and “Dynasties”. His other clients include Disney Nature, Sue Flood and Clive Nichols.
Stephen is an external imaging advisor for the Natural History Museum and prepares images for their many wildlife books including their annual flagship book of “Wildlife Photographer of the Year”.
Using many years of commercial experience Stephen has been able to develop an ethical approach to grading and retouching Wildlife and other types of photography.
Stephen is based in Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast where he runs workshops as well as retouching for clients.
