Lucy Manning - Chester Zoo

Why did you become a keeper? Animals are amazing, I loved visiting Colchester Zoo while I was growing up and it was my ambition to work with exotic animals for as long as I can remember.

What’s your favourite animal and why? All our animals have individual personalities; they are all special in their own way.

What’s been your most memorable moment in your career to date? Seeing the first Eastern black rhino calf being born (Zuri) at Paignton Zoo, the team had waited a long time for her arrival. She now lives here at Chester Zoo and has a calf of her own.

What’s so special about Chester zoo? Chester has such an amazing passion for wildlife; it is the leading UK animal collection with the largest number of public visitors per year and supports so many conservation projects all over the world.
