Challenges
Fruit bats are seeing their habitat destroyed on Mauritius and the Rodrigues, and is largely seen as a nuisance by people.
Across the region, forest is continuously destroyed for industry and agriculture.
Alternative and sustainable livelihood options are urgently needed to mitigate the pressure on the forests as a resource for humans.
Our Efforts
We support alternative livelihood initiatives in the regions as well as youth schemes to promote sustainable activities amongst the next generation.
We have established strong partnerships with local conservation NGOs Madagasikara Voakajy and The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation.
Staff from our bird and amphibian teams here at Chester have been heavily involved in developing techniques and supporting teams in the region to implement conservation activities
