Human-elephant conflict usually involves elephants raiding crops, which causes economical loss to plantation owners and smallholders in Peninsular Malaysia. One mitigation measure is translocating these elephants to larger forest areas.
My PhD is investigating the effect of translocation on the health of the animals and how they adapt to their new environment using non-invasive wildlife endocrinology techniques.
