Discover the amazing animals that call Chester Zoo home
Orangutans are amongst the most intelligent animals on the planet. At Chester Zoo we have both Bornean and Sumatran orangutans.
The two-toed sloth does everything while hanging upside down from trees including eating, sleeping, mating and even giving birth!
This tiger’s stripes are closer together and its fur darker than other subspecies to allow it to better blend into its rainforest habitat.
Discover the capybara, often called the giant guinea pig. Native to South America, it holds the title of the world’s largest rodent species.
Snow leopards use their long tails to wrap around their bodies for added warmth.
Chimps each have individual features, just like we do, including skin colour, hair cover and facial shapes – they are our closest living relatives!
Fossas are the LARGEST carnivores in Madagascar. Secretive and cat-like, these predators are well equipped for chasing down lemurs in the forest.
Giraffes are nature’s gentle giants, growing up to six metres tall! The giraffes at Chester Zoo are one of the tallest subspecies of giraffe.
Unlike many other cats, jaguars do not avoid water. In fact, they're pretty good swimmers!
Although these small mammals may look like bears, they’re actually in a genus of their own called Airlurinae.
Birds often hitch a ride on their backs, feeding on ticks and parasites on rhinos’ skin. These rhinos tolerate them for their cleaning service.
Meet the meerkats of Chester Zoo. You will always be able to spot at least one of these incredibly social animals in their habitat.
