National Conservation Zoo

Opening times today: 10am - 5pm (Last entry at 4pm)

The Sustainable Palm Oil Communities Ambassador Programme is an initiative led by Chester Zoo which aims to spread awareness of Chester Zoo’s Sustainable Palm Oil Communities project and increase the demand for sustainable palm oil across the United Kingdom. By joining this programme, you become part of a network of Sustainable Palm Oil Communities Ambassadors who spread awareness of this mission and encourage businesses to make the change from unsustainable to sustainable palm oil. Together, we can transform the market and help to protect wildlife and habitats all over the world.

The Q Partnership was formed in 1986 by three independently owned family run businesses – V.A. Whitley, Friars Pride and Henry Colbeck, and distribute more than 1,200 individual frozen and ambient products to over 6,000 Fish and Chips takeaways and restaurants across the UK. The Q Partnership have a strong stance on sustainable palm oil, ensuring they use 100% segregated palm oil. Segregated palm oil means the palm oil is sourced from only sustainable plantations and is never mixed with unsustainable palm oil, making it completely deforestation-free. By using this type of palm oil, The Q Partnership are protecting rainforest habitats and the myriad of wildlife who call the rainforest home.

The Q Partnership will be advocating for sustainable palm oil by spreading the word on social media and talking to their customers across the nation, increasing awareness of the importance of sustainable palm oil and encouraging people and businesses to make changes to their own palm oil usage and become champions for our Blackpool, Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire and Dorset communities!

Pieminister was founded in 2003 by brothers-in-law Jon Simon and Tristan Hogg and has quickly become recognised as a premium pie brand in the UK, putting as much emphasis on quality, ethics and sustainability as it does on great taste. Still an independent family business, and now a B Corporation, Pieminister set out its own ‘Pies, Planet, People’ goals in 2020, to drive its ambition to become truly sustainable.

Pieminister is committed to championing deforestation-free ingredients, such as using 100% deforestation-free, identity-preserved palm oil sourced from Daabon: the world’s most transparent palm oil producer. Their palms are grown on land that has been cultivated for over a century, and to date, Daabon has planted thousands of native tree species in and around their plantations, further supporting biodiversity. After all, the rainforest’s rich wildlife plays a vital role in maintaining natural pest control for their palms!

In assuming the role of Sustainable Palm Oil Ambassador, Pieminister hopes to encourage other businesses to source deforestation-free sustainable palm oil and communicate their policies in a similar, positive way.

With over 2,600 shops nationwide and serving millions of customers every week, Greggs remains committed to making ethical and sustainable sourcing decisions that help protect the planet.
