Sustainability and Climate Change Education Forum:
Professional development for teachers
The DFE's strategy aims to make the United Kingdom the world-leading education sector in sustainability and climate change by 2030.
The strategy aims to help the education sector positively impact, influence, and inspire communities by improving the sustainability of the environment in and around education settings and the knowledge and understanding of children and young people. Action Area 1 of the strategy strives to prepare all young people for a world impacted by climate change through learning and practical experience. To achieve this, the DfE will support schools, settings and organisations so that all young people have access to high-quality education that equips them with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to understand and respond to the challenges of climate change. The strategy will achieve this by providing a curriculum, which includes climate education, the natural environment, and sustainability, and by ensuring that all young people have access to practical experience and opportunities to engage with the natural world.
Building on the success of last year's forum, this year's event will continue support you as you move towards embedding climate, biodiversity and sustainability themes at school. To start thinking about ‘policy into practice’, you’re invited to join us at Chester Zoo for a day jointly hosted by the DfE, Chester Zoo, RHS and Manchester Metropolitan University. It promises to be a lovely day, and we are especially happy that it coincides with the school takeover day at Chester Zoo where you'll meet inspiring young people from schools who have embedded conservation education at the heart of their curricula.
