ANIMAL FACT FILE: Pine marten
This fact file introduces young people to one of the UK’s most elusive woodland mammals – the pine marten (Martes martes). It provides fascinating information on the species’ habitat (broadleaf and coniferous forests, and grasslands), diet (including berries, birds, small mammals and amphibians), and key features such as its bushy tail and slender body. Learners are also encouraged to consider when and where to spot pine martens in the wild and to explore their wider global distribution, which includes parts of Europe, Asia, and Russia.
As well as delivering key scientific facts, the resource invites students to get involved in real-world conservation by reporting sightings and supporting organisations that work to protect this native species. The pine marten fact file supports learning across science, geography, and citizenship while helping learners to understand and value rare UK wildlife.
