The Skills Builder Activity from Chester Zoo is a reflective learning resource designed to help young people recognise and develop essential life skills used both in school and everyday life. The activity focuses on key skills such as listening, speaking, problem solving, creativity, adapting, planning, leadership, and teamwork. Learners are encouraged to think about real situations where they have used these skills at home, in the classroom, or during group activities, helping them make clear connections between learning and real-world experiences.

By prompting pupils to record examples for each skill, the resource supports self awareness, confidence, and personal development. It can be used alongside other Chester Zoo learning activities to help learners reflect on how they work with others, solve problems, and communicate ideas. The activity is flexible and well suited to individual reflection, class discussion, or careers focused learning.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify a range of transferable skills used in everyday life

  • Reflect on personal experiences of listening, teamwork, and problem solving

  • Develop self awareness and confidence in personal strengths
