“A Snail’s Tale” is short educational film which explores the rediscovery and conservation of the critically endangered Giant Vietnamese magnolia snail.

Originally described in 1860 and thought to be lost for over a century, the species was rediscovered in 2012. The video covers the snail’s journey from its rediscovery to Chester Zoo’s efforts to protect and rebuild its population. It highlights the scientific research and conservation techniques used to replicate natural habitats in captivity, ensuring the survival and successful breeding of this species.

This video provides insight into the challenges faced by conservationists working to save endangered species, emphasising the importance of habitat replication, biodiversity, and the role of zoos in protecting wildlife. The resource also touches on the broader implications of species extinction and the urgent need for conservation interventions, making it an excellent tool for engaging learners in science and geography lessons and even to explore career options.
