Do you know an educator who’s making a difference in conservation education? Now’s your chance to recognise their incredible efforts.
We’re excited to announce that nominations are now open for the National Conservation Education Awards, run by our team at the zoo.
Whether it’s a teacher, a school, or an individual initiative, you can nominate them for their outstanding work in inspiring young people to care about nature and conservation. Nominations are open until midnight on 25 May.
Finalists will be invited to a special gala ceremony on 10 July, where we’ll celebrate the achievements of those leading the charge for a greener future through innovative and impactful environmental education.
Since the awards began four years ago, we’ve had nominations from parents, school governors, school staff and even the pupils themselves. We want to celebrate the educators and organisations that are inspiring the next generation, who create an environment where young people are empowered.
The planet has already changed within their lifetime, and no other generation has been as passionate about protecting the future as this one. It’s vital for them to know what direct and practical actions they can take, like how to create habitats for wildlife.

Award Categories
There are three categories for the awards, with separate recognition for primary and secondary schools:
- Outstanding Conservation Educator: This award celebrates those who find innovative ways to engage pupils in conservation and environmental action.
- Outstanding Conservation School: Recognising schools that have sparked a lasting passion for wildlife and conservation in their students.
- Outstanding Conservation Initiative: This category rewards individual initiatives. Last year’s winner transformed unused space into a large sensory garden, benefiting both the environment and student wellbeing.
Many of the past winners have focused on creating spaces for nature, as well as prioritising pupil wellbeing alongside environmental education.
If you know a staff member, team, or school that has achieved something extraordinary over the past couple of years, we want to hear from you! These awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate achievements, boost morale, and gain well-deserved recognition for the hard work and dedication in the classroom and beyond.

Previous award winners have been leaders in outdoor learning, forest schools, and hands-on conservation projects. Many have embedded sustainability deeply into the curriculum, helping students take tangible steps in protecting their planet.

Educational visits
By fostering a sense of curiosity, empathy, and responsibility for the natural world, educators are giving children the tools they need to make a real difference. Our educational programmes help young minds connect with wildlife, understand the importance of conservation, and realise the impact they can have on the planet.
