Snow leopards are threatened with extinction
With their population rapidly declining, snow leopards are threatened with extinction. Right now the IUCN estimates there are only between 2,710 and 3,386 snow leopards left in the wild.
By caring for snow leopards here in our new habitat, we will be helping to preserve the future of this species. Our teams are also investigating the best ways we can champion projects that support snow leopard populations in the wild, helping the species not only to survive but to thrive in the future.

Support giraffe conservation - Giraffe hoofprints
As we celebrate the opening of Heart of Africa, we're inviting you to be part of something truly special.
Introducing Footprints for the Future: giraffe hoofprints. A unique way to support the conservation of giraffes, both here at Chester Zoo and across Africa.
With a £500 donation, your name - or the name of a loved one - will be engraved onto a beautifully crafted giraffe hoofprint plaque and displayed inside our brand-new giraffe house. The perfect way to donate to wildlife and protect giraffes.
Your support goes beyond the zoo. You’ll be standing with us on the frontline of conservation, helping to protect Northern giraffes in Uganda, a species on the brink of extinction. With fewer than 3,000 left in the wild, action must happen now.
Be part of this legacy. Help us safeguard the future of giraffes.
Your donation includes:
- Your personalised wooden giraffe hoofprint plaque in our new giraffe house.
- A bespoke thank you pack with a certificate of support.
- Exclusive conservation updates from our experts, showing the impact of your generosity.

Northern giraffes need your help
Right now, the IUCN estimates that fewer than 3,000 remain in the wild, and numbers are falling fast.
By caring for our giraffe herd in their new home at Heart of Africa, we’re playing a vital role in safeguarding this species. Your generous support not only helps us care for this critically endangered species, but also cements your legacy as a guardian of giraffes for years to come.
Our work doesn’t stop here at the zoo. Our teams are on the ground in Uganda, working with conservationists to protect and restore wild giraffe populations - ensuring they don’t just survive, but thrive.
