A love of wildlife from a young age led me to study for an MBiolSci in Zoology at The University of Sheffield. In 2008 I joined Chester Zoo’s Discovery and Learning team and over four years I delivered various education outreach projects including Learning Together, Recipes that Rock and Safari Ranger, providing workshops from Key Stage 1 to 5 and running community engagement events.

In 2012 I began working as Technical Assistant to the CEO at Chester Zoo, this role includes organising and delivering the zoo’s annual conservation expedition to our field programmes and managing EAZA European Endangered Species Breeding Programmes (EEPs) for Blue-throated macaws and Jaguars, and assisting to manage EEPs for Ecuador amazon parrots and Black rhinos.

Over the last four years the CEO and I have carried out research into the status and distribution of the Ecuador Amazon parrot in the wild. I am currently undertaking an MSc researching habitat loss and availability in Ecuador as a threat to the species’ survival.
