The staff at Chester Zoo have to manage the diets of thousands of species. Some of the species need very specific browse and silage based diets.

This course will look at the nutritional value of browse and silage, and how this can incorporated into planning for the dietary needs for species such giraffes, okapi and congo buffalo. It’ll look at effective management practices for browse production, including strategies for optimizing browse availability, utilization, and integration into existing feeding programs.

This course will include:

  • Plantation management,
  • Silage production,
  • Plantation tours of our estate,
  • Forced willow production,
  • Tree ID,
  • Nutrition value of browse and silage.

There will also be time to network and share best practice with other zoo professionals on the course.
