Built in 1885, Oakfield House was once a private home at the heart of the estate. In 1931, it became part of Chester Zoo, founded by George Mottershead. Today, it remains a beloved landmark, now home to The Oakfield, a pub celebrating good food, history, and heritage. Lovingly restored, The Oakfield features a beautiful garden room with views over our award-winning gardens.

We serve freshly prepared, locally sourced food, including ingredients from our own kitchen garden. Here, we grow a variety of herbs, vegetables, and fruits that inspire our menu. Whenever possible, these homegrown ingredients are used in our dishes, bringing a fresh, seasonal touch to everything we serve. The garden not only supports our commitment to sustainability but also allows us to create unique seasonal specials that reflect the very best of each time of year.

Usual zoo admission fees apply but our members can visit as often as they wish.
