Following the announcement of the winners at our Wildlife Connections festival, our team have been working with Dig the Quarter to develop the space into a haven for UK wildlife.
Located in the heart of the Garden Quarter in Chester, the space will develop over the next few years, giving local residents the opportunity to encounter wonderful wildlife right on their doorsteps.
It’s maintained by a group of local volunteers who work hard to make every small bit of available space in their community as good for wildlife and people as possible.
Nicola, from the Dig the Quarter said:
“This is just to say a very big thank you on behalf of the Garden Quarter for running such a fabulous event on Saturday. We could see how much work Chester Zoo put into providing such a variety of interesting activities that all ran smoothly and professionally, it was a real credit to the team and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. It was also a great advert for the zoo’s work to sustain wildlife in communities and we received many positive comments on the day. I think it will be a wonderful launch to what I hope will be one of many events and we got quite a few ideas of things that we could do in the future.”
There were plenty of activities that took place on the day the new garden officially opened; including building bug houses, bird boxes and wellie planting!
We’ve been working with Wildlife Champions from local community groups, to create safe spaces for our precious local wildlife.
