No sooner had the Rhinos left the streets to be tended to by the ever-faithful rhino Mania Medics, than anticipation for the auction started to gather apace. Ticket enquiries have been flooding into the website from bidders keen to secure their place at the Chester fundraiser of the year with the Rhino Mania Facebook and Twitter sites buzzing with talk of the auction.And the great news for the thousands of Rhino fans who are already missing their colourful friends is that they will have a last chance to see the Rhinos at the AUCTION PREVIEW at Chester Racecourse on Sunday 3rd to Tuesday 5th October, where potential bidders and fans alike will be able to see all 53 Rhinos going under the hammer. This will include Maximus Rhinoceros who flew the Chester Flag in London Euston and Rhynosaur, standing guard in Liverpool’s Lime St Station and three further coveted mini rhinos. Sally-Ann Wilkinson of event organisers Wild in Art said: ÛÏ The auction is going to be an unmissable night in the Chester social calendar. I’m sure the bidding will be fast and furious as well as being great fun, and at the end of the event, we hope our 53 Rhinos will have new homes and our charities will have received a fantastic boost.Û Star lots include a stunning design by American artist and entrepreneur Marc Ecko, a tribute to Û÷The King’ Elvis Presley and a newly commissioned design by Cheshire artist of note Sarah Jane Richards. The auction will be in the safe hands of Bargain Hunt auctioneer, John Crane of Cato Crane Auctioneers. Rita Waters, Chief Executive of Chester Renaissance said: ÛÏIt’s been a truly fantastic summer. Everyone has seen the benefits from city centre businesses to overseas visitors and our own schoolchildren. It’s been a joy to see the great impact this event has had on the city and we know the Rhinos’ new owners with treasure them for years to come.Û The Auction is sponsored by Chester Racecourse, with 75 % of proceeds going to Chester Zoo’s Black Rhino Field Conservation Project in Kenya and Tanzania, the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and a small number of other charities.
