Hedgehog Champions

We were analysing our camera trap footage and noticed a badger appearing on them. From this we started to watch the videos and look through the pictures to gain an understanding of the badgers foraging behaviours.

We conducted three hedgehog tunnel surveys where we were able to find footprints of mice, hedgehogs and magpies.

We are both project coordinators for the University of Chester's Hedgehog Friendly Campus Project. A bug hotel building workshop was conducted for 30 delegates from the UK Hoby Youth Leadership 2023 Symposium as part of our activity. We conveyed the importance of hedgehog conservation and the work we have done to support hedgehogs at the University of Chester. In addition to building bug hotels from natural resources, participants were able to take them home with them and some students allowed us to place the bug hotels around the University's forest. Also as part of our project we run activities for our student volunteers and support them in understanding the conservation of hedgehogs and why it is important.
