CONNECT
Birds are an important part of our ecosystem. They disperse seeds, eat insects and some are food for others animals. Plus, they are a joy to watch! Spend some time watching a blackbird hunt for food or a little robin sing its cheerful song.
There are loads of ways you can CONNECT with birds, here are just a few ideas:
BIRDWATCHING
Bird watching can be of benefit to both you and the birds. Many of us find the activity relaxing and entertaining. But best part about the activity is that you might learn to recognise repeat visitors to your garden. Get to know which birds visit your green space so you can know which type of food to leave out or how what kind of bird house you might build
IDENTIFYING BIRDSONG
Every bird has their own unique call sound that they make to communicate. Some birds may have a high-pitched upbeat call while others may have a low-pitched call. In this challenge you will guess which call belongs to which bird. Once you have completed it you will be a bird call pro!
Learning all the different bird songs will help bring us closer and feel more connected to wildlife, helping us to create an appreciation for our beautiful birds.
INVESTIGATING BIRD FEEDERS
Different garden birds need a variety of food and types of feeders. Leaving out food for garden birds is a great way to help them. Understanding which foods and types of feeder attract different types of bird will really help you to take action in the future.

- You can complete this challenge on your own or with friends.
- Try to find a quiet place and be careful not to make too much noise – birds like quiet spaces.
- Patience is the key when waiting for birds to arrive – it might take a few a minutes for them to arrive.
- Take a photo of your experience and write an account in your award application.
