TAKE ACTION

It can be a tough life out there for invertebrates – being outdoors all day, every day can get very tiring. Fortunately, we can help! Building a log pile can help our little friends find some shelter and hide from their unforgiving world.  Plus, they are pretty easy to build.

The perfect pit stop for wildlife like insects, spiders and woodlice; log piles can help protect the invertebrates in your garden from harsh weather and predators.  Equally, this makes the perfect place for toads and hedgehogs to explore for a chance to grab some food.

WHAT TO DO TO COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE?

We’d love to see pictures of your log pile and some notes on the invertebrates you wish to see there. We recommend you follow the next steps to complete this challenge:

  1. You can complete this challenge on your own or with friends, but get permission from the owner of the green space before you place the logs.
  2. Try to use logs that have already fallen rather than branches from trees.
  3. Take a photo of your completed log pile and upload your picture!
  4. Don’t forget to visit the log pile again in a couple of weeks to see what else has been visiting.
