Wander through a tropical environment and get closer to some of our more delicate wildlife.

As you take your first steps on your Butterfly Journey you’ll notice the change in temperature. So, make sure you spend a moment to take in your surroundings and get used to the change in climate. This is an experience you won’t want to rush…

What you will find in this tropical habitat is more delicate than some of the other animals found across the zoo, but despite their stature, these butterflies are remarkable – some of the species can have a wingspan of up to 30cm across.

As you make your journey through hundreds of exotic plants it’s important to look all around you as the many different types of butterflies will be fluttering all around – each a different colour, pattern, size or shape! They could land anywhere too, so watch your step!

Together with the sound of a waterfall in the distance, you’ll feel as though you’re walking through the rainforests of Latin America or South Asia.

ACCESSIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS

Butterfly Journey is an indoor space. At times it can be busy and there may be a lot of noise. If you think this might be overwhelming for you, you can watch this short video before your visit to the zoo. The video explains the accessibility considerations of Butterfly Journey and what you can expect to see and hear in there.
