We’re SO excited to welcome our first EVER Youth Board at Chester Zoo. This dynamic group of young people from a multitude of backgrounds, are on a mission to empower young people to take action for wildlife.

What does Chester Zoo mean to you?

I love Chester Zoo! It’s always provided a form of escapism for me where I can spend time connecting with loved ones, animals and nature. I am inspired by Chester Zoo’s mission to prevent extinction and I admire their dedication to educating their visitors and the communities they work within to move towards this.

Why do you want to support our Chester Zoo Youth Board team?

I feel passionately that young people should be involved in conversations which affect their future. Chester Zoo’s Youth Board team have created opportunities for young people to become involved with conservation and share their voices within the sector, I am excited to work alongside them and contribute to this work going forward.

What do you hope to achieve from your role on the Chester Zoo’s Youth Board?

I would like to play a part in empowering young people and promoting their voices and inclusion within the conservation sector. Learning more about Chester Zoo’s work within conservation and how I can become more involved with their mission of preventing extinction is something I also hope to achieve. I look forward to having opportunities to work alongside my peers and to push myself out of my comfort zone.

What would you communicate to your peers to inform and engage them into conservation projects within Chester Zoo and their wider local communities?

Find what works for you and don’t be too hard on yourself. Everyone is different and finding an enjoyable way to learn about topics which matter to you is important. There are many ways to engage with conservation from having conversations with friends to signing/sharing petitions to changing daily habits. Engaging with conservation projects whether at the Zoo or within our wider communities provides an opportunity for us to have an impact on our future which can feel really empowering.

NOW is the time to ACT FOR WILDLIFE. Conservation is CRITICAL; species are under threat. TOGETHER we can make a BIG difference. Take action TODAY and join us in PREVENTING EXTINCTION.
