We’re SO excited to welcome our first EVER Youth Board at Chester Zoo. This dynamic group of young people from a multitude of backgrounds, are on a mission to empower young people to take action for wildlife.

What does Chester Zoo mean to you?

Chester Zoo is somewhere I have cherished greatly since I was very young. I have many fond memories of visiting the zoo with both family and friends as a child, sparking a deep interest in animals and conservation from a young age. As I grew older my interest in the animals at the zoo developed into an appreciation for the education and conservation that takes place there, inspiring me to pursue a degree in Zoology with Primatology. Now that I have finished my master’s degree, the same appreciation for education and conservation inspires me to seek a career is Zoological research.

Why do you want to support our Chester Zoo Youth Board team?

I am passionate about supporting the Chester Zoo Youth Board team as I believe that the involvement of young people is key to making a meaningful impact on future conservation efforts. As a part of the youth board, I can help give young people a voice within the conservation world whilst also helping to inspire the next generation of conservationists. Collaborating with like-minded peers to achieve both of these goals is something that resonates with me deeply.

What do you hope to achieve from your role on the Chester Zoo’s Youth Board?

As a part of the Chester Zoo Youth Board, there are a few main goals that I would like to achieve. Firstly, I would like to help inspire and empower young people to have an active role in conservation efforts, helping them to foster a sense of responsibility for the global environment. Additionally, I would like to help encourage young people to get involved in zoological research in order to discover innovative solutions to combat extinction. Finally, I would like to ensure that young people have an active contribution towards Chester Zoos goal of preventing extinction.

What would you communicate to your peers to inform and engage them into conservation projects within Chester Zoo and their wider local communities?

To encourage my peers to get involved with conservation I would highlight that there are countless opportunities available all over the world that people can get involved in. This can be as simple as engaging in discussion about conservation or as complicated as starting up a group that develops green spaces within your local community. There is really a path that is suitable for anyone to get involved in conservation projects no matter who you are or how much time you have to dedicate. I would emphasise that even a small amount of time and effort devoted to conservation initiatives can lead to significant positive change. Through a collective dedication to sustainable practices and environmental preservation we can help protect the natural world for generations to come.

NOW is the time to ACT FOR WILDLIFE. Conservation is CRITICAL; species are under threat. TOGETHER we can make a BIG difference. Take action TODAY and join us in PREVENTING EXTINCTION.
