People enjoying the Nature Reserve at Chester Zoo

Nature Reserve

See what incredible wildlife can be found right on our doorstep and explore the habitat of our UK wildlife as part of your journey to Chester Zoo.

We love ALL wildlife and as part of our mission to prevent extinction, we want to do all we can to help local wildlife – that’s why we’ve created a nature reserve right here at the zoo to help our local wildlife.  You’ll find this wildlife haven at the back of the carpark - just follow the signposts!

The reserve has recently expanded and now covers 14 acres - that's more than nine football pitches! It has accessible pathways, picnic spaces, a grass amphitheatre as well as lots of wonderful wildlife.

Lose yourself in this tranquil outdoor space and explore how we’re working to protect our precious wildlife. See how many different species you can spot here.

Just so you know, the Nature Reserve is free to visit and is open to the public during the same hours as the zoo’s opening times.  The aim of this habitat it to attract and protect wildlife, so we’re afraid that dogs aren’t allowed in the reserve except for guide dogs.

Keep an eye on our website for any upcoming events we'll be running on the Nature Reserve >
